Theia Energy is a private energy company with its origins in geosciences and petroleum exploration. The company is pursuing the diversification and transition to the development of integrated renewable energy, hydrogen and sustainable fuels projects by leveraging its existing oil and gas tenements and stakeholder relationships to initiate these efforts.
At Theia Energy, the integration of environmental sustainability considerations in our daily business decisions and strategies is fundamental evidenced by our actions. The Company is committed to its responsibility to minimise the impact of projects and operations on the environment and to demonstrate leadership and courage in the transition towards net zero emissions by 2050.
In order to give effect to the energy transition, we are actively investing in the acquisition of tenure, on-ground site investigation, exploration activities and feasibility studies to employ renewable energy technology best suited to our tenements and the production of transportable low-carbon energy products in the form of liquid hydrogen, ammonia and methanol among other solutions.
We operate in close consultation with our stakeholders and form effective partnerships to ensure the sustainable and leading practice implementation of projects.
In the long term, Theia Energy aspires to be a significant producer of net zero (carbon emissions) energy solutions. Initially, the company is focussed on developing projects that minimise Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions in line with the Australian Government’s stated goal of net zero by 2050.
The Company has identified, and manages, the Company’s Environmental, Social and Governance risks to which it has material exposure, and the Board is responsible for managing those risks in a manner consistent with the Company’s Risk Management, Compliance and Governance Policy.
The Board will continue to review Theia Energy’s environmental and social sustainability and associated risk management framework to ensure that it is fit-for-purpose; that the Company’s practices and procedures align; to determine whether there have been any material changes in the business risks the Company faces; and to ensure that the Company is operating within the risk appetite of the Board.
Indigenous culture and Community
Theia Energy’s interests and activities are concentrated in the Canning Basin, in the northwest of Australia. The area has a rich and important cultural history. Therefore, meaningful and strong relationships with the community and traditional owners are central to successful and sustainable business.
Since 2011, we have been working in the region and formed strong relationships and developed respect of traditions, culture and heritage. We are grateful to the traditional owners with whom we have engaged for their frank and constructive approach to the projects we seek to undertake and continue to learn from them in looking after their country and their alternative views to popular western culture.
”Karajarri country is the source of spirit, culture and language for our people.

Wherever possible, we seek to create opportunities for employment and contracting for aboriginal and local businesses. As the scale of activities increases, this will increase the opportunities available and the skills required. Theia Energy understands the importance of building skills and capacities among local people and businesses as a way of investing in the future and ensuring that traditional owners and local businesses can benefit from the opportunities that arise.
Theia Energy is committed to conducting all operations in a manner sensitive to cultural concerns and undertakes a process of consultation with Traditional Owners and affected stakeholders before commencing any on-ground activities. Prior to ground disturbing works, to protect heritage values of the region, Theia Energy undertakes heritage clearance surveys and engages Traditional Owner heritage monitors during the carrying out of any ground disturbing works.
To that end, Theia Energy has long-standing heritage protection agreements in place with traditional owner groups that are recognised as the traditional owners of the lands on which we operate. On 20 August 2020, after an intensive engagement process culminating in a historic vote, Theia Energy and the Karajarri Traditional Lands Association signed indigenous land use agreements for the development of the Great Sandy Desert Project. The engagement process involved over 25 meetings including, cultural awareness, information sessions about proposed processes and practices, risk workshops, environmental assessment reports and site visits. Not only, has the process provided for free, prior and informed consent to Theia Energy’s proposed operations and a robust agreement with strong cultural heritage and environmental protections, it has more importantly provided for a strong relationship built on trust and mutual respect that provides for effective collaboration for decades to come.
